Do people learn to drive a car or fly a plane without lessons? With all of the responsibility that comes with taking friends and family boating, shouldn’t you be properly trained before getting underway?

My name is Capt. Jonathan D. Parmet, and I am the founder of LearnToBoat.net. I am a US Coast Guard Veteran and hold a 100GT license with commercial towing endorsement. Growing up on the waters of South Florida and having served in the US Coast Guard, I’ve witnessed far too many injuries and accidents which were avoidable. My approach to training is a learn by doing hands-on approach. While classroom training is helpful, it is not a substitute for hands-on training on your own boat.
